Residents from across Leam Lane and the surrounding area were invited to meet their local funeral directors when Walker & Morrell Funeral Directors hosted a community open day at its new funeral home in Fewster Square.
The event brought together local residents, clergy, celebrants, charity representatives and members of the wider community, providing an opportunity to look around the funeral home, meet the team and ask questions in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
For many visitors, the open day offered a chance to learn more about the support available following a bereavement, as well as the different choices open to families when planning a funeral. The team were on hand throughout the day to provide information and help answer questions.
A special ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Rev. Gareth Rowlands, Lead Chaplain at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, while Rev. Rupert Kallus of St Andrew’s Church in Leam Lane gave a blessing of the chapel of rest.
The Leam Lane funeral home is led by Samantha Rutherford, supported by colleagues including Nicola Lynn, who welcomed visitors and introduced them to the facilities and services available locally.
Speaking after the event, Samantha Rutherford said:
“I am here to support the people of Leam Lane, whether they need immediate help, would like some guidance or simply want to understand more about the choices available. Our aim is to help every family create a funeral that feels fitting and personal.”
Alongside supporting families, the funeral home is keen to become part of the local community and has already established links with organisations including Leam Rangers Football Club and The Ravensworth Golf Club.
The open day marked the beginning of a new chapter for the funeral home and provided an opportunity for the team to meet local people, build new relationships and demonstrate the caring support available to families in Leam Lane and the surrounding area.
